Chiropractic Care and a Limp
From time to time, I have patients come into my Palm Beach Gardens Chiropractic Office in need of fixing a limp with their gait. Most of the time, this is a quick fix. The most common cause that this Chiropractor sees is a misaligned femur bone; at the socket. This causes the Tensor Fascia Lata muscle (TFL) to go into spasm or at the very least to tighten to the point of making the patient uncomfortable. When The Tensor Fascia Lata does actually spasm, the patient may actually begin to limp. Not to worry, Chiropractors in Palm Beach Gardens see this type of problem quite frequently.
Correcting a Limp Using Chiropractic
Correction is very simple. The Chiropractor will use the Thompson drop table to correct the subluxation (in most cases). Let's explain to you what this will look like so you can better visualize the correction.
With the patient in a supine or face up position, the Chiropractor will flex the patient's leg about forty-five degrees. The leg (using the patient's knee) is then driven downward in either a posterior and medial direction or a posterior and lateral direction; depending on the angle of misalignment. Don't worry, the drop table is moving less than 3/4 of an inch. Using the drop table allows the table to accept the force so that patient does not have to. The correction is actually very easy on the patient.
The sharp pain which the Chiropractic patient was experiencing leaves immediately and typically is replaced by a dull ache; which will remain from the tensed up TFL muscle. This dull ache usually disappears within forty-eight hours. It takes this long because a muscle that was in spasm takes time to release the toxins which were causing the spasm to begin with. As they say, you can't rush mother nature!
